History Loves Ox Horn
You’ve learned where the name Lamy’s came from. What you may not know is that every part of our building, the shops, and menu items are named after the past that still lingers in these old walls. The Ox Horn was a brand, owned by Lamy’s and created by men and women on the 2nd and 3rd floor of our historic site.
The Ox Horn brand was mostly men’s denim pants. Denim was still a fairly foreign material at the time of our early production, even though it had been in America since the late 18th century. It came from France and was dyed with indigo to get that “blue jean” effect we all know and love so well.
If you’ve visited Lamy’s, you know we eventually became an exclusive distributor of Levi’s. More on that amazing story later. But for many years, we rocked our own brands including Ox Horn and Rainbow. Our Rainbow Coveralls were worn over suits and ties while men worked, so they wouldn’t get their nice outfits dirty.
These brands were sold to little mom and pops shops, as well as some bigger names you may have heard of like JC Penny, Sears, and Montgomery Ward. I mean, yeah, we don’t always name-drop…but when we do, it’s kind of impressive. Today, you can find our old brands of denim on display in Lamy’s. Bring your grandpa with ya and ask him if he owned a pair or Ox Horn or Rainbows. History loves company.
Ox Horn loves Women
It’s true. While our original clothing may have been for the men, our Ox Horn Market was made for the ladies! When we sat down to design this special place, we pictured moms, sisters, wives, girlfriends, daughters, all enjoying a lunch of leisure. From our perfect upscaled menu (where you can grab your favorite salad and sandwich) to the unique gifts and gadgets available for you to shop while you wait, we believe Ox Horn Market is a perfect stop for the ladies!
