History Loves Change

In 1990 the way of cutting denim to make jeans changed pretty radically at Lamy’s with the invention of more modern technology. From 1960 to 1990 carbon was used to make copies of the patterns onto the fabric, but prior to the invention of carbon, a machine was used to cut tiny holes into the denim. Those holes were then sprinkled with chalk powder, and then workers used the chalk outline to cut the pattern out.

The same was true when it came to adding sizes to the jeans. The tool you see below cut little holes into the denim and was sprinkled with that same chalk so that as the denim moved through the process, the sizes were able to be seen and then sorted.

In the 1990s, however, technology prevailed and patterns came in electronically. These patterns were then ironed onto upwards of 120 layers of denim and then cut out by both man and machine. The change experienced at Lamy’s with the arrival of new technology made life easier and better for all involved.

Change Loves the Present

Like so many starting of 2022 with goals, resolutions, and ideas of change for themselves, their businesses, etc., in the new year, we also have some changes happening inside the walls of Lamy’s. We are excited for all of the possibility that awaits both us and you in 2022.

The first major change you will notice as you enter our walls is that our Ox Horn Market space has been replaced with Southern Maven Boutique, which used to be on the second floor of our building. Southern Maven is very excited to greet you as you enter our space and we know you’ll enjoy shopping with them.

Lunch is still on, though! Make no mistake. We are still serving up our best dishes and tastiest creations from the same kitchen. The only change is that you’ll be sitting inside the No. 5 Bistro and Bar while you eat it. And yes, we are already counting down the days to when we can open the patio!

Present Day Loves Joseys

While we’ve done some moving and changing over this holiday break, one area that hasn’t changed at all is Josey Records. Still boasting an expansive collection of books and records, we feel confident that you’ll find something you didn’t even know you needed! Come on in and join us by the fire as you catch up on the best books of 2022.

Keep in mind that there are a lot of people making changes for the better in 2022. We’ve got a vast selection of self-help books, cookbooks, etc., and we know that sometimes our friends and family could benefit from a little extra love in the form of a new book or record to encourage their journeys of a better self. Josey has you covered.

The winds of change don’t always mean bad and in our case, it’s anything but! We are so excited for you to come in and check out the changes. Bring your friends and family. After all, history loves company.
