History Loves New
Our building was erected in 1893 and shut down operations in 1998. From that time to 2017, our building sat vacant. We spent 3 years planning, designing, envisioning, and remodeling our beloved space. We brought in all the experts and most of the design process was done by our very own Scott Benbrook, along with local designer, Zarah Melville.
“I don’t think it was ever anyone’s wish for the building to sit nearly vacant for 20 years, but whatever it was to become needed to be nearly perfect and done right the first time,” said CFO Scott Benbrook. Scott joined the team in 2012 and started looking at different directions the building could go in and evolve to become what it is today. Scott also knew that just as strong as the ideas were, so had to be the team that executed it.
With a strong economy behind Sedalia and the beginning construction of Nucor’s mill in Pettis County coupled with the downtown development already underway, the community stood ready to invest heavily into Sedalia. These ideas led us to believe that bringing this beloved building back to life was not only possible but probable.
New Loves Foodies
One of the developments in our building was No. 5 Bistro and Bar. No. 5 has been a popular hangout spot since the day we opened. What’s new at No. 5? How about the menus?? We’re back in action with two brand new menus for lunch and dinner! We spent winter break ironing out all the details and what we’ve come up with is a winning option for everyone in your party!
Join us for lunch at the Bistro and dive into our No. 5 Steak Salad, our creamy good Buffalo Mac and Cheese, or Chelsey’s Turkey Apple Brie (that won our fan fave contest last fall). Working on that new, healthy you? Not a worry with our healthy salads and bowls! Plus, come in and check out our Red Snapper Sandwich! Oh so good, oh so healthy!
For dinner, don’t ever sleep on the Goat Cheese Croquettes. Trust us. They sell out almost every single night. Love cheese, but not from goats? You’re golden here with our new Smoked Cream Cheese. For that main course, you’re gonna want to try our new Red Pepper Pasta featuring our house-made red pepper cream sauce, andouille sausage, goat cheese, and parmesan on a bed of penne pasta. Yes, it’s as good as it sounds. Or stick with our house favorite: beef tenderloins.
No matter what you choose, you won’t be wrong. Bring an empty stomach and all your friends. After all, history loves company.
