History Loves a Pivot
Lamy’s first 3 apartment tenants all moved in the first-weekend occupancy was allowed without an operational elevator and with the 2nd floor still very much under construction. We had moved our office back into the building in December of 2019 in order to be closer to the project through the final months.
The 2nd floor reached substantial completion by the end of April, though the leasehold improvements that tenants would need to do in order to prepare their space would still need to be done. In March 2020 with a goal of opening the No. 5 Bistro & Bar, Ox Horn Market, and Josey Records by April the project came to a screeching halt with the COVID-19 pandemic beginning to reach our area.
Opening in April was clearly not going to be feasible as many of the contractors had put COVID-19 protocols in place that limited their ability to help us complete the project. Our team basically had to handle most of the remaining details ourselves. We poured all of the concrete countertops, finished sanding and sealing the floors, built the light fixtures that hang on the first floor, and got all of our equipment into place.
We enjoyed a brief sigh of relief when we opened the first weekend of June 2020, but quickly realized that now the work had just begun.
A Pivot Loves Completion
We’ve now been up and running for over 18 months. While we’ve experienced a few changes, the one thing that hasn’t changed is the quality of food and atmosphere. We pride ourselves in being different than anything else Pettis County has to offer. And our repeat locals, our friends that travel to dine in our doors, and the new faces we meet each day have assured us that we’ve done that part right.
