History Loves Patents
In 1787, the U.S. Constitution gave Congress the power to secure inventors’ rights (Article I, Section 8). The U.S. has had patent protection since 1790, which was developed over the next several hundred years with standards significantly expanded in the 1950s. A patent was issued to J. W. Davis and Levi Strauss and Co. in March of 1875 for an improvement on the pantaloons that we made right inside these walls.
Levi Strauss and Co. owned several patents on the different products we created inside these walls and it comes as no surprise that their most recent patent, issued in December of last year (2021) was related to laser finishing on the fabric. We’ve sure come a long way since the 1800s. We couldn’t have even imagined lasers in 1875–that’s probably because the first one wasn’t even invented until May of 1960.
Patents Love Clothing
It’s true that almost all industries have a patent on their products, services, and ideas. Clothing leads the world in issued patents, behind computer services. We are thankful to house Southern Maven Boutique inside Lamy’s and offer amazing boutique clothing right here in Sedalia. Southern Maven is a small family-owned business located on our first floor, where the OxHorn Market used to reside.
They offer beautiful home decor, women’s and children’s clothing, and everything in between, though, we’re partial to the KC Chiefs gear! Win or lose, they are our team! Make sure you grab your next No. 5 Bistro date night outfit at Southern Maven! You can even use our infamous bathrooms to change and head on upstairs for your dinner. We’ll save you a seat. Bring a friend with you. After all, history loves company.
