History Loves Summer

During the summer of 1896, a 10-day heatwave killed nearly 1,500 people, across the Northeastern United States. Thousands of people were left outside with no air conditioning, little circulating air, and no running water. Family and friends crowded together — with five to six people sharing a single room–if they could find it. Extra space on the floor was rented out to single men — many of whom worked six days a week doing manual labor out in the sun.

Ironically, this didn’t even compare with the heatwave that would come in 1936. It took place during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl and caused an enormous economic toll. The only summer to be as close to hot as 1936? 2021. That’s right, if you’re reading this right now, you’ve lived through one of the two hottest summers in US history with 2020 and 2021 taking two of the top 5 places.

Summer Loves Refreshments

Thankfully, our modern conveniences offer some reprieve during those hot summers around the Mid-West. We happen to think that Lamy’s is one of the best spots to spend your hot summers. We offer cold drinks, cool treats, and refreshing salads and sandwiches to help you cool down during the middle of the workday.

While it’s often fairly hot on the patio during the middle of the summer, you forget about it quickly when your Strawberry Thyme Collins arrives. Featuring fresh summer strawberries, vodka or gin (but go with the gin), lemon, thyme, and club soda. It’s a party in your mouth and it SCREAMS summer.

Feeling the need to be a little more “manly” with your summer drink choices? We understand. That’s why our Peach Old Fashioned is a staple on our menu year-round. Pairing Bourbon, Peach Schnapps, Angostura Bitters, oranges, and our house-made Lamy’s Luxardo cherries–it’s a drink you’ll order time and time, again.

We are iced down and geared up for all that summer has to offer us. The only thing missing is you and all your friends. Get your band together and head on down to Lamy’s. We’ll save a seat for you. After all, History Loves Company.
