History Loves Competing

The eighteen eighties were years of important change in American business and industry. Twenty years after the Civil War, the United States had become one of the leading industrial nations in the world. As the number of factories increased, so did competition between businessmen.

Some industrialists cooperated with their competitors to reduce competition. But this did not always succeed. There was no way to enforce their agreements. For us in particular at Lamy’s, the competition in the sewing world was great. Sewing garments became one of the leading industries in America during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

When our relationship with Levis was formed, we were able to solidify ourselves as one of five factories making America’s favorite brand. This certainly set us apart and allowed us to thrive for many, many years.

Competition Loves Lamy’s

Today, we compete as a restaurant, a record store, a clothing shop, a patio, and a bar. Though, there’s no other business in town where you can find all of those things under one roof. Today, we spend our time focusing on the competition between friends inside these walls. With our weekly family scavenger hunts, our paint nights, and our trivia nights, we offer up friendly competition all week long and on repeat throughout the year.

It’s safe to say that competition in our world has increased tenfold in the last 100+ years. Everywhere you look there’s a contest, a competition, trivia nights, etc. Some of these happenings are just good business. Some of these happenings are just great fun.

We’ll let you decide where we fall. All we know is that you can’t have a friendly competition without friends. So, grab yours and head to Lamy’s. After all, history loves company.
