History Loves Horses

Since the Missouri State Fair is in full swing here in Sedalia, Missouri, it felt like a great time to talk about the Two Horse Trademark that Levi’s made famous many years ago. Why horses? Well, a fun little fact for all you out-of-towners, Missouri is home to two out of three of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales teams! One of our teams lives about 40 minutes from Lamy’s and the other lives in the St. Louis area.

You can see these magnificent creatures all week long at our state fair! We’ve certainly enjoyed getting to know these animals up close and in person.

Horses Loves Denim

While you’re in town for the fair, make it a point to stop by Lamy’s. Once you walk in, head up the stairs inside Josey Records to the No. 5 Bistro and Bar. There, you’ll find original artwork of Levi Strauss and Co’s Two Horse Trademark.

This visual was to depict how strong a pair of Levis were. These horses symbolize the strength of the Levi denim in the face of competition. It was to show you that two horses didn’t have the strength to rip a pair of Levi denim in half!

Levi Strauss was so confident in their product that they patented the Two Horseman Trademark in 1873 and introduced it publicly in 1886. That’s a lot of faith in jeans! Today, we still wear our jeans proudly and even hang a few original pairs on the walls. Grab a friend and head to Lamy’s. We’d love to show you our collection! After all, history loves company.
