History Loves Old Denim
Have you heard the latest in Levi’s denim? I’m sure you have, but we’re sharing it here, anyway. This week, a pair of Levi’s jeans from the 1880s (that had been found about 5 years ago in an abandoned mine by a “denim archeologist”) went up for auction. They were then purchased by 23-year-old Kyle Hautner and Zip Stevenson, a veteran of the vintage denim world.
Original Levis Denim sold for about $3 a pair in 1880, so you can imagine the headlines when the duo spent a whopping $87,000 for the single pair, making them one of the highest prices ever paid for a single pair of jeans.
What are the duo’s plans for this special pair of denim? Well, they are hoping to land a private buyer for the almost immaculate pair of jeans. They said they hope to turn a profit of close to $50,000 on their purchase.
The best part is that the jeans are “wearable” according to everyone who has seen them in person. So, if you wear a 38×32, go ahead and take out your wallets and get ready to snag your next pair. Don’t consider buying them alone, though. They are co-owned now and can be co-owned again. After all, history loves company.
