History Loves Bargains
Take a wild guess at how much money you think a pair of Levis jeans cost in 1948? Was your guess anywhere close to $3.75? We are going to bet not. In fact, jeans were ordered in bulk from the Lamy’s factory at the whopping price of $45 a dozen! We compared that straight from the Levis site today and IF there is a sale, you can get a single pair for that price.
This is the price of jeans in America. But, what about other parts of the world? In Japan and Thailand, a USED pair of 501s goes for upwards of $80 a pair today and if they are nice but faded, Europe will offer you over $50 for that used pair. In fact, at a Paris auction house in 1994, two pairs of 1930s vintage LEVIs with copper rivets went for…wait for it…$3,500! Maybe American pricing isn’t that bad?
Bargains Love Books
Right as you walk into the Lamy’s building, you will immediately see the large selection of records and books Josey has to offer. Everything from records to books to CDs and DVDs is available – new and used. We want to make sure that all of our offerings meet our customers’ expectations, so we have several listening stations for records as well as a fireside seating area to enjoy a nice book.
One of the biggest attractions to Josey Records and Bookstore is the “like new” books we offer. We’ve had people come in and buy books wondering how they are so cheap?! Well, because they are used, but more often than not, you can’t tell. There’s no better way to fill your love of reading than with all of your favorites for a fraction of the cost.
Books Love Quiet time
We’ve got all the books. What we need are the readers! Where else in Sedalia can you browse for books, sit fireside reading said book, and have lunch brought to you from your choice of two locations?? Answer: nowhere. We are kinda proud of all that we offer under one giant roof.
We believe books are best enjoyed in a quiet atmosphere–allowing you to soak up all of your favorite characters and details. That being said, we want to remind you that we will be closing December 19th through December 30th to allow our staff and their families to enjoy the holidays, soak up the quiet time and catch up on their favorite books!
We will be reopening December 31st for dinner and brunch will be in full force on January 1st! Come see us and bring all your hungover guests. After all, history loves company!
