History Loves Christmas Music

It’s the week of Christmas and we thought it would be fun to chat about some of our favorite Christmas albums! After all, we have Josey Records right here in the building and we’ve been listening to the good stuff for the last several weeks. We’re sourcing these album sales from who else but Rolling Stone magazine.

From gangsta rap to jazz to reggae to indie-pop, from crooners to rockers, the impulse to knock out a “Blue Christmas” or a “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” knows no boundaries or religion. Christmas music truly breaks all barriers when it comes to artists.

Here’s a list of the Top 10 Christmas Albums of all time.

#10 Ella Fitzgerald, ‘Ella Wishes You A Swinging Christmas’ (1960)

#9 ‘Soul Christmas’ (1968)

#8 Bing Crosby, ‘White Christmas’ (1986)

It should come as zero surprises to anyone that Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” still holds the record in the Guinness Book of World Records for the best-selling single of all time. Though, his entire album hits at #8 on our list.

#7 Beach Boys, ‘Beach Boys’ Christmas Album’ (1964)

#6 Louis Armstrong and Friends, ‘The Best of Christmas Songs’

#5 ‘A Motown Christmas’ (1973)

#4 ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ (1965)

#3 James Brown, ‘James Brown’s Funky Christmas’ (1995)

#2 Elvis Presley, ‘Elvis’ Christmas Album’ (1957)

#1 ‘A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector’ (1963)

Not just the greatest Christmas record ever, but a bona fide pop classic in its own right. (Rolling Stone named it Number 142 on their list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time).

What do all of these records have in common? Josey. You can grab them at Josey Records. Let the Christmas spirit fill your home. Needing a record player? We’ve got those, too. Truly, your one-stop shop. Head on down to Lamy’s with your lists for all. After all, history loves company.
