History Loves Fame
While the rise to fame of Levi’s jeans grew over the course of several decades, one infamous ad had the power to change the denim industry forever. All it took? A 15-year-old Brooke Shields. In 1980, Calvin Klein changed the denim industry forever. Brooke Shields (a then-rising star) appeared wearing a pair of CK’s in a provocative pose and all of a sudden, the world realized there were other brands of denim available.
To this day, there are over 35,000 brands producing jeans. That’s a lot of competition–or maybe– none at all? No matter what brand of jeans you pull on each day, at Lamy’s we will always be partial to the name Levi’s. It’s why this building still stands. It’s what our history is built on and we are extremely thankful.
Fame loves Reid (and his Podcast)
If you’ve been sleeping and missed it, Reid Swearingen (5th generation operator) launched a podcast earlier this year. The Partner’s Desk podcast has featured several well-known famous names around these parts. From retired NFL player (and former Mizzou Center) Tim Barnes, Sedalia legend, and a hell of a coach, Kim Anderson– to our most current episode with MU Assistant Athletic Director, Brad Loos.
While Loos has been known for his skills on the side of the court, more recently (and perhaps more famously) he is known for the work he has done for pediatric cancer research. Unfortunately, Loos started a foundation for pediatric cancer after walking alongside his very own daughter as she fought brain cancer. However, we are thrilled to say Rhyan Loos is on the other side of cancer, but the Loos family foundation is still going strong and it’s incredible the work they are doing!
Reid Loves No.5 Bistro and Bar
It’s true. Reid is a big fan of the bar. And while he loves a good glass of whiskey or the Ozark Coffee Stout, he’s really more proud and in love with the actual bar itself. The design work that went into remodeling this building was no small matter. With Zarah Melville’s keen eye for detail, design, and a vision that is unmatched –came her equally talented brother, Matt Melville, and his craftiness, trade skills, and the ability to make the visions a reality.
Come on in. Take a seat at the No.5 Bistro Bar and simply just look around. We get lost in astounding details on a daily basis. Every square inch has been thought of and no corner was cut, no stone was left unturned. The entire 3 story building is a work of art that has come to life. While you’re there, grab a drink and hit up a conversation with your neighbor or our amazing bartenders. After all, history loves company.
