History Loves Levis

Picture it. It’s the 1930’s/1940s and the Stafford’s (current owner’s grandfather and great grandfather) are headed to Colorado. It’s a vacation for the family and it takes them over a week to get to their destination. Once they arrive, Grandfather Stafford encounters a brand unknown to anyone in the Midwest.

This western regional brand has not made it east of Colorado and is primarily marketed to cowboys. They are called “LEVI’S”. In 1946, Grandpa Stafford makes a deal based on a handshake to start production of Levi’s at Lamy‘s facility here in Sedalia, MO. By 1948, Levi Strauss & Co. takes over all of Lamy’s manufacturing, distribution, and sales.

In the 1950s, a man by the name of James Dean is seen wearing a pair of Levi’s and people lose their minds. All of a sudden, these jeans are for more than just cowboys and everyone has to have a pair. Levi’s has the entire denim world in their hands until 1980 when another star comes into the scene. Who is it? Find out next week.
