History Loves Swearingen

We sat down with the man, the myth, the legend, Mr. John Swearingen! Swearingen is more formally known at Lamy’s as the Owner, President, and Head Coach of his stellar team. From his viewpoint, life at Lamy’s has a purpose and offers a challenge on the daily basis. This requires serious concentration and constant communication, which all will agree, that Swearingen does seamlessly well.

One of his favorite parts about this historic building is that almost everyone in this community has some sort of connection to it. This often comes in the form of a friend or family member that was previously employed in the building, a fondness for the history of Sedalia, or simply the beautifully renovated building they can enjoy in the present day.

Swearingen Loves Change

We asked Swearingen what his favorite item on the menu is. He agrees with his son and daughter-in-law that the pork tenderloin is hard to beat. But, what he really loves is that the menu changes with the seasons allowing for the proteins to remain recognizable, but allowing slight modifications and changes to the foods that complement them.

On the bar side, anyone who knows John knows red wine is a favorite drink of choice. However, he’s proud of the craft cocktails that Lamy’s serves up and loves that they are always evolving, just as the menu is.

Change Loves Tunes

As far as a favorite new band or artist, no one person or band stands out for Swearingen. However, he loves that he’s been introduced to multiple genres of music because of housing Josey Record in the building. The playlist that Josey puts together is phenomenal and allows for easy listening to anyone that strolls through our doors.

“What I have enjoyed most about Josey is learning the art and science of what various values older albums carry,” Swearingen says. We think it’s more than safe to say that there’s something for everyone inside the walls of Lamy’s. But don’t just take our word for it. Grab a friend and come on by. After all, history loves company.
