History Loves Train Travel
The Missouri railroad revolutionized travel. The cross-state route followed by the modern Amtrak passenger and Union Pacific freight trains sent the first commercial passenger, freight, and mail trains through from St. Louis to Kansas City 156 years ago this week. Travel by railroad changed Missouri and America, for that matter.
Still to this day, travel by railroad is an expensive, convenient, and predominantly efficient way to travel. The railroad you see in front of the Lamy Building was built in the middle of major ups and downs in the economy and was further made difficult by the destruction brought on by the Civil War.
The railroad was essential to the development of Missouri and became the key part of the commercial reach between coasts. Today, the Amtrak still makes daily stops right here in Sedalia and Lamys is a frequent favorite pit stop amongst travelers waiting to board and those ending their journey.
Train Travelers Love Lamys
If you’ve had the absolute pleasure of traveling by Amtrak, you know that’s cheap, quick, and a damn good time. If you’re new to train travel, know this one thing: You can legally bring aboard your own food and drinks (yes, the adult variety, too). This makes the train station’s parking lot right next to Lamy’s just so dang convenient.
You can head in early, grab yourself a cocktail at No. 5 Bistro and Bar while you wait for the train, order something to-go, and while you’re at it, grab a bottle of wine, champagne, or maybe even a 6-pack from our To-Go fridge at OxHorn Market. Does it even get better than that? Well, yes. We also serve Ice Cream Factory ice cream. We think this will pair just nicely with a train ride. With shopping inside our main floor at OxHorn and Josey Record and a huge shop upstairs at Southern Maven, we basically are a one-stop-shop just in time for the Holidays!
Lamy’s Loves YOU
In all seriousness, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more relaxed environment that also features upscale cuisine. We’ve worked hard to make this space inviting for all. It is our community that we kept in mind while we refinished this space and brought it back to life. While you’re welcome any time our doors are open, so are your dogs! Lamy loves our pets and they are the perfect addition to the patio club.
We can’t wait to see you, your dogs, and all the friends who travel along this amazing railroad. Tell everyone you know about the fun you had at Lamy’s. After all, History Loves Company.
